The town of San Marcelino in Zambales celebrates its bounty harvest of these delectable globe-shaped white fleshy rhizomes we locally call as Singkamas. A favorite snack during the afternoon and a healthy ingredient to different Filipino dishes – Singkamas almost ubiquitous in the town during the season. The festival is celebrated every last week of February.
We particularly covered the street dance parade and competition as this is one of the most colorful and grandest part of the festival. After we arrived near lunch in San Marcelino, we found ourselves enjoying the with locals as we join in celebrating the town fiesta. Truly, Pinoys are the epitome of hospitality. I have learned the locals speak basic Ilocano language.
Congratulations to San Rafael Highschool for bagging the championship for 2018. First Runner-up is St. William’s School and San Guillermo National Highschool are the Second Runner-up.
Our heartfelt thanks to Sir Ruffie of Bisikleta Pilipinas for hosting us to cover this amazing festival. Please follow their page to know more about their adventures and advocacies.
