MOVE Gets IATA Accreditation in Philippines, Giving Travelers More Flight Choices

AirAsia MOVE is expanding its role in the Philippine travel market after securing IATA accreditation, a move that could give Filipino travelers access to more international airlines and flight options through one booking platform.

For Filipino travelers planning an overseas trip, the biggest takeaway from AirAsia MOVE’s latest announcement is simple. More airlines are becoming accessible through the platform.

AirAsia MOVE has been accredited by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in the Philippines, strengthening its ability to work with airline partners and issue tickets through the IATA framework.

The company says around 30 international airlines serving routes to and from the Philippines have already granted MOVE ticketing authority within the first few weeks of its accreditation.

What Does IATA Accreditation Mean for Travelers?

IATA accreditation is an industry credential for travel agents and travel sellers. It allows accredited agents to sell tickets on behalf of participating airlines and gives them access to IATA’s Billing and Settlement Plan for airline transactions.

For travelers, the accreditation provides an important signal that MOVE is strengthening its direct relationship with airlines.

It does not mean every airline automatically becomes available on MOVE. It also does not guarantee cheaper fares. The practical benefit comes from the airline partnerships and ticketing authority that follow.

IATA says accredited travel agents can gain easier access to airline facilities, ticketing authority and standardized payment and settlement systems.

AirAsia MOVE Says It Can Connect Travelers to 700 Airlines

MOVE says its platform currently provides access to more than 700 airlines serving 3,000 destinations worldwide.

It also has direct partnerships with global carriers including Etihad Airways, ANA and VietJet.

For Filipino travelers, that could mean fewer separate websites and apps to check when planning an international trip. (Instead of checking an airline website, hotel platform and attractions platform separately, travelers can use MOVE to search for several parts of a trip in one place.)

The platform says it also offers more than one million hotels, along with live events, attractions and other travel services. That puts the AirAsia MOVE firmly in the broader online travel agency market rather than simply operating as a flight booking platform.

Around 30 International Airlines Have Already Granted Ticketing Authority

This is arguably the most significant detail in the announcement.

According to Malou Japson, Country Head for MOVE Philippines, around 30 international airlines serving the Philippines have granted MOVE ticketing authority within the first few weeks after its IATA accreditation.

The development could expand the range of international flight options available to Filipino customers through the platform. It gives MOVE a stronger foundation for building additional airline partnerships.

What I Think This Means for Filipino Travelers

1. More airlines could become available through one platform

The biggest potential benefit is choice. Travelers flying from Manila, Cebu, Clark and other Philippine gateways could eventually have access to more carriers and international routes through MOVE. That can make flight comparison easier, particularly for travelers who prefer to check several airlines before booking.

2. International travel planning could become simpler

MOVE is building a platform that covers flights, hotels, attractions and other travel products that matters for travelers planning multi-part trips. Instead of booking an airline ticket on one website and accommodation somewhere else, users can potentially manage several travel purchases through a single platform.

3. More competition could benefit travelers

The Philippine online travel market already has several major players. MOVE’s growing airline network adds another layer of competition. As platforms compete for travelers, consumers can benefit from better flight inventory, more booking options and improved digital services.

But price remains the key factor – travelers should still compare the final price against the airline’s own website before paying.

4. International travelers could get better access to the Philippines

The announcement is also significant from a Philippine tourism perspective. MOVE’s expanding airline network does not only connect Filipinos to overseas destinations.

It can also help international travelers search for flights to the Philippines!

Once those travelers arrive, MOVE’s hotel, attraction and travel-service inventory can give them additional products to book. This creates opportunities for Philippine-based hotels, attractions, tour operators and other tourism businesses to reach travelers through a major online booking platform.

MOVE Is Building Stronger Ties With Philippine Tourism

The IATA accreditation is part of a broader push by MOVE to strengthen its presence in the Philippine travel industry.

Earlier in 2026, the company became a member of the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) and the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA).

MOVE has also been working with the Department of Tourism through the “Discover More to Love” campaign, which promotes domestic travel. Taken together, I think these moves show that MOVE wants a larger role in the Philippine tourism ecosystem. Its strategy covers international flights, domestic tourism, accommodation, attractions and other travel services.

Will AirAsia MOVE Mean Cheaper Flights?

Not necessarily.

IATA accreditation does not automatically translate into lower airfares. The main impact is on MOVE’s ability to work with airlines and participate in the systems used for airline ticketing and settlement.

Actual fares will still depend on the airline, route, travel dates, seat inventory, promotions, taxes, baggage and other charges.

For Filipino travelers, the smart approach remains the same –> Compare the total booking cost on MOVE with the airline’s direct website before purchasing.

Check baggage.

Check cancellation and change rules.

Check the final payment amount.

And check who handles customer support if your flight is disrupted.

Why This Matters for Philippine Tourism

–> The bigger story is connectivity, connectivity and connectivity.

The Philippines depends heavily on air transport for domestic tourism and international arrivals. More digital distribution channels can help connect travelers with airlines, hotels and tourism businesses. For local tourism businesses, visibility on major booking platforms can matter when travelers are deciding where to go and what to book.

For Filipino travelers, the benefit is more direct –> More airline partnerships can mean more choices –> More choices can make it easier to compare routes, schedules and prices.

More airline partnerships could mean more ways to get from the Philippines to destinations across Asia and beyond, all through a platform that is steadily expanding beyond flight bookings.
