That was my biggest takeaway after seeing Samsung’s latest Galaxy devices at the recent Galaxy Unpacked Event in Makati City. The spotlight was on thinner foldables, brighter displays, cameras built for demanding conditions, and wearables that can keep up with long travel days.

As someone who spends a lot of time hopping between airports, hiking trails, heritage towns, beaches, and busy city streets, I couldn’t help but picture how these devices would fit into real trips instead of a showroom. Here are the features that caught my attention and the travel moments where they would actually make a difference.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. Built for the Long Haul

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra feels like a phone designed for people who spend entire days away from a power outlet.

Its 5,000mAh battery paired with 45W fast charging is the first thing I noticed. On travel days, I usually start before sunrise to catch flights, spend hours taking photos and videos, use maps, answer emails, and still edit content before checking into a hotel. Having a battery that lasts longer means one less thing to worry about.

When you finally do find a café or airport charging station, fast charging gets you back on your itinerary instead of waiting beside a wall socket.

Another standout is the 3,000-nit display with an anti-reflective finish.

Anyone who has tried reading Google Maps while walking under the midday sun in Siquijor, crossing a plaza in Vigan, or trekking through rice terraces of Mayoyao knows how frustrating screen glare can be. The brighter display makes directions easier to follow without constantly searching for shade.

The 200MP main camera captures impressive detail. Imagine standing on the viewing deck overlooking Mayon Volcano during sunrise. Galaxy Z Fold8. Less Weight, More Freedom

Travellers appreciate every gram they don’t have to carry. Samsung says the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is its lightest Fold yet, and that matters more than people think.

After spending ten hours walking through museums, markets, and old districts, a lighter phone becomes surprisingly noticeable. It slips into a sling bag or jacket pocket without feeling bulky. The 4,800mAh battery comfortably supports a full sightseeing day filled with navigation, messaging, ride-hailing apps, translation tools, and photography.

One feature that immediately stood out was Dual Camera Recording. Picture yourself riding a boat through Coron, joining a food crawl in Angeles City, or riding the ferris wheel in Enchanted Kingdom.

You can record the stunning scenery while capturing your own reactions at the same time. For travel vloggers and storytellers, this creates more engaging videos without carrying another camera to film yourself. Its 50MP main and ultra-wide cameras also adapt well to changing travel scenes.

One minute you’re photographing street food in a crowded night market. The next, you’re capturing an entire cathedral façade or a dramatic coastal landscape.

Galaxy Z Flip8. The Pocket-Friendly Travel Companion

Some travellers don’t want a large phone. The Galaxy Z Flip8 makes a strong case for packing lighter.

At only 6.1mm thin and weighing 180g, it almost disappears inside a pocket or belt bag. That’s useful when you’re exploring cities where carrying less attracts less attention and makes walking more comfortable.

The FlexCam became one of my favourite travel features. Instead of searching for someone to take your photo or balancing your phone against a water bottle, you can partially fold the device and place it on a table, a rock, or a ledge.

It turns almost any flat surface into a tripod.

Samsung also upgraded the high-strength hinge, giving extra confidence for travellers who open and close their phones countless times throughout every trip.

Galaxy Watch Ultra2. Made for Outdoor Adventures

Not every holiday revolves around cafés and city walks. Some trips involve mountains, rivers, forests, and open water. That’s where the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 caught my attention.

The 800mAh battery is built for longer adventures. Multi-day camping trips, island hopping, or long hikes become easier without constantly monitoring battery levels.

Its 5,000-nit display stays readable under direct sunlight, something that makes checking pace, maps, or notifications much easier while standing on an exposed ridge or cycling along coastal roads. The larger 1.52-inch display also makes information easier to read while moving.

The durable titanium construction feels ready for demanding environments where equipment inevitably gets bumped against rocks, railings, backpacks, or diving gear. One feature outdoor travellers will appreciate is the redesigned band, which Samsung says is 25 percent softer and lighter.

Long hikes become more comfortable when your watch doesn’t constantly remind you it’s there. Samsung also highlighted its suitability for trail running and diving.

Picture hiking through a national park in the morning before spending the afternoon exploring coral reefs. Having one wearable that comfortably shifts between both activities means carrying less equipment throughout the trip.

Galaxy Watch9. Everyday Travel Gets Smarter

Not every traveller climbs mountains. Many of us spend entire days walking around cities. The Galaxy Watch9 feels designed for that kind of travel. Its lightweight aluminium body keeps it comfortable during long walking tours that easily reach 20,000 steps.

The 3,000-nit display remains readable while navigating sunny streets, checking transport schedules, or reading notifications outdoors. Battery life from its 390mAh battery is suited for full-day sightseeing. What interested me most were the new preventive health features combined with Samsung’s on-wrist intelligence.

Travelling often disrupts routines. Late flights, changing time zones, irregular meals, and long walking days can all take their toll. Having health information readily available on your wrist offers useful reminders to pay attention to your body before fatigue catches up with you.

A Travel Kit That Thinks Beyond Specs

Galaxy Unpacked wasn’t simply about showing thinner phones or brighter screens. The presentation focused on making technology fit naturally into everyday life, and travel is one place where those improvements become easy to appreciate.
