The Bondoc Peninsula District is stepping forward with a fresh tourism identity through BonPen: Cultivating Faith, Harvesting Experiences, a familiarization tour developed by the Quezon Provincial Tourism Office in collaboration with the municipalities of Padre Burgos, Agdangan, Unisan, Pitogo, General Luna, Catanauan, Mulanay, and Macalelon.

According to Provincial Tourism Officer Nesler Louies Almagro, this initiative represents the first of many fruits of Quezon Province’s tourism development efforts, moving toward a meaningful direction focused on emerging destinations and authentic local experiences.

The result is a route that feels refreshingly different from traditional sightseeing. Instead of rushing from one attraction to another, visitors are invited to slow down, listen to stories, meet local communities, taste family recipes, walk through farms, and reflect in sacred spaces.

Where the Sea Meets the Farm in Padre Burgos

The journey begins at Sun Ridge HaBi or Hardin ng Biyaya Beach Farm in Padre Burgos.

Tucked along the shoreline of Sitio Matalundok in Barangay Danlagan, this beachfront agro-resort offers a simple but increasingly rare luxury: peace.

Nipa cottages stand beside the sea while nearby gardens and open spaces create a setting where nature feels unhurried. Mornings begin with waves lapping against the shore. Afternoons are spent swimming in clear waters, strolling around the farm, or simply finding a shaded spot to enjoy the coastal breeze. Unlike crowded beach destinations, Sun Ridge HaBi feels intimate.

A Tower of Faith Rising Above Agdangan

If there is one structure that instantly captures attention in Bondoc Peninsula, it is the Luminous Cross of Grace Sanctuary in Agdangan.

Standing approximately more than a hundred feet high, this towering shrine resembles a giant monstrance crowned by an illuminated cross. Yet its most remarkable story lies not in its size but in how it was built.

Visitors do not simply observe but they can participate in different available agri-related experiences inside Omaña Farm. During our visit, a soap-making demonstration followed a hearty farm lunch, offering a hands-on glimpse into value-added agriculture.

Walking Through History in Pitogo

The Conversion of St. Paul Parish Church stands as one of the oldest religious landmarks in Bondoc Peninsula.

Perched on a hill overlooking the sea, the church traces its roots to the Spanish colonial period, while the current coral-stone structure dates back to 1824. Its thick walls, classical façade, and commanding location create an atmosphere that immediately transports visitors to another era. The experience extends beyond the church itself. Nearby lie the ruins of the old Kastilyo watchtower and heritage structures that collectively tell the story of a coastal community shaped by faith, trade, and defense.

Coffee, Community, and a Tourism Milestone in Catanauan

Every destination needs a gathering place, and in Catanauan that role belongs to Preskobrews Café.

This contemporary coffee shop has become a favorite stop for both locals and visitors. Specialty coffee, refreshing drinks, and light meals provide welcome fuel for travelers exploring the peninsula. More significantly, Preskobrews hosted the official launch of the BonPen Trails initiative attended by Quezon’s provincial leaders and tourism stakeholders.

Sometimes history begins not inside grand halls but around café tables.

The Crispy Legend of Oscar’s

No visit to Catanauan is complete without tasting Oscar’s Crispy Dried Beef Tapa.

Produced by the Abella-Tan family using traditional methods, this local specialty has developed a loyal following across Quezon Province. What makes it special is consistency. The process remains largely manual, preserving the flavors that first made the product popular. The recipe has also received FDA approval, further strengthening its reputation. Served with garlic and vinegar or packed as pasalubong, Oscar’s offers travelers something every destination should have: a flavor they remember long after the trip ends.

Mulanay’s Timeless Church

The historic St. Peter the Apostle Parish Church remains one of Mulanay’s most recognizable landmarks.

Our group enjoyed a pre-arranged lunch buffet inside the third-floor function hall, where expansive views complemented the meal. It is a reminder that sometimes a meal becomes a destination in itself.

Growing Dreams in Macalelon

Agritourism takes another inspiring form at Mikastra Integrated Farm.

Guests can explore organic crops, training facilities, nurseries, and demonstration areas while learning sustainable farming practices. During our tour, we witnessed actual tuba harvesting through their interconnected bamboo bridges. We treated as well with light snacks and a demonstration of their cooking their local delicacy.

Macalelon’s Spiritual Heart

The Immaculate Conception Parish Church serves as Macalelon’s enduring center of faith.

Its coral-stone architecture, elegant façade, and welcoming grounds provide visitors with a glimpse into the municipality’s religious heritage. The church remains an active gathering place where faith continues to shape community life. For travelers exploring the district, it offers another meaningful stop along the peninsula’s growing pilgrimage circuit.

Finding Reflection on the Mountain of Faith

Our BonPen Trails journey concludes fittingly at the Mountain of Faith. Set amid rolling hills in Macalelon, this devotional garden invites visitors to walk winding pathways lined with religious displays, statues, and grottoes.

During our visit, the group gathered at the gazebo before descending through landscaped pathways that seemed designed for contemplation. The rewards are breathtaking views of forests, hills, and the surrounding countryside. As the sun begins to soften and the landscape glows in the late afternoon light, the Mountain of Faith captures the essence of the entire Bondoc Peninsula experience.

A New Chapter for Bondoc Peninsula District
