Celebrating PSAU’s 10 Years as a University: A Look Ahead

Clark Freeport Zone—The Pampanga Press Club’s (PPC) KapiHANN Media Forum kicked off its new year with an inspiring discussion featuring the team from the Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU), as its first guest of the year. Held at the elegant Prism Lounge of Widus Hotel Clark, the forum highlighted PSAU’s achievements, ongoing initiatives, and plans for the future.

Dr. Anita David, University President, expressed her gratitude, beginning her address by acknowledging, “No other ways but to thank God,” and lauding PPC for fostering a strong relationship with PSAU. She emphasized the university’s role in empowering the local community, stating, “The community also needs PSAU, and PSAU needs to continue contributing to the province and the whole country.”

Strengthening Industry Readiness

Dr. David underscored PSAU’s commitment to preparing students for real-world challenges. “We really need the industry to be inside the university, [so] students [are] industry-ready upon graduation,” she said, reflecting the institution’s push for closer industry-academia collaboration.

Extension and Research Goals

Aspiring to join the International QS Rankings, Dr. David called for strengthening PSAU’s internationalization efforts. “Before we are able to go to the world, we need to solidify our global stage initiatives,” she remarked, aligning with PSAU’s vision of enhancing its research and extension activities.

Academic Excellence and Employability

PSAU’s 2024 board exam results were evidence of its commitment to academic quality. Programs like BEED achieved a 100% passing rate, while BSED recorded over 80% success. Notably, PSAU secured topnotcher spots in various professional licensure exams, including Veterinary Medicine (Top 3, 4 and 9), Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (Top 3 and 10), and Geodetic Engineering (Top 5). Dr. David proudly noted the high employability rate of PSAU graduates, with some securing jobs in esteemed government institutions like DOST and DENR even before graduation.

Celebrating a Decade of Excellence

As PSAU marks its 10th year as a university, it was highlighted during the media forum about plans for a three-day celebration from February 5 to 7, 2025. Events include a wreath-laying ceremony, a Thanksgiving mass, and a showcase of the university’s sustainable growth. Mr. Carlo de Dios, PSAU’s Head of Public Affairs, elaborated on the theme, revealing ten significant events scheduled for the year. These include the Tamarind Festival in March, Research, Extension and Training Forum in April, Alumni Homecoming in May, June is for Volunteerism Day in partnership with the Philippine National Volunteer Service, Coordinating Agency, Internationalization Day in August, observing Arts Month in September, events about Gender and Development in October, Environmental Month in November, and the launching of a PSAU coffee table book in December.

Allowing Campus Tours

The PSAU Campus is located at the foothills of Mt. Arayat, its elevation can offer views of the Pampanga plains. There are different farms for their research and study. When asked if PSAU allows campus tours for external guests, Dr. David responded positively. “Yes, write to the university through the information unit of the Office of Public Affairs and International Linkages,” she advised, inviting interested individuals to experience the institution’s vibrant campus environment. The PSAU delegation at the forum included key university leaders, reflecting a strong and diverse representation. Joining Dr. David were Dr. Lyndon G. Solis, VP for Planning and Resource Generation; Dr. Sylvia De Guzman, VP for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Madeliene R. Solis, Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Studies. Other notable members included Dr. Neil C. Tanquilut, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine; Engr. Rosemarie Macmac, Chairperson of the Department of Geodetic Engineering; Engr. Melissa Olalio, Chairperson of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering; Ms. Grace Viray, Head of the Information Unit; and Mr. John Paul Viray, Head of the External Affairs Unit. University Secretary Mr. Jessie H. Licup and Mr. Carlo de Dios introduced the delegation to the PPC members.

PSAU’s participation at KapiHANN 2025 not only showcased its decade-long journey of excellence but also reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and community engagement, setting the tone for an impactful 2025.
