The South East Asia Drift Series is set to take place on December 7 and 8 at the San Simon exit in Pampanga, marking the first time the Philippines will host this international motorsport event. The competition will bring together 30 top drifters, including 10 international drivers and two female competitors, for an adrenaline-filled weekend of high-speed battles.

QUICK HISTORY ABOUT DRIFTING

Drifting, which originated in Japan, is judged on precision, style, and angle rather than speed. Competitors will push their cars to the limit, navigating the track sideways at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Spectators can expect non-stop action, with smoke-filled runs and head-to-head duels showcasing the skill and artistry of this growing motorsport.

WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR

Notable drivers to watch include Robbie Nishida of Japan, Mervin Nakamura of Malaysia, and Akbar Rais of Indonesia. Local talents like Arianne Sison and Audel Sison will also represent the Philippines. For Arianne, a Kapampangan drifter, the event is a “historic moment” and a chance to inspire more women to join the sport.

Formula D driver Rome Charpentier described the event as a major step for the region, noting that the winner of the series will earn a professional license from Formula Drift, a significant milestone for any drifter’s career.

The event is expected to boost local tourism, bringing visitors to Pampanga and creating opportunities for nearby businesses. Hosting an international competition also highlights the country’s potential in motorsports, drawing attention to Filipino talent and facilities.

Tickets are priced at Php 400, offering an affordable way to witness world-class drifting. Fans and newcomers alike are encouraged to attend and support the Philippine delegation. This is a unique opportunity to cheer on local drivers and be part of a major motorsport event on home soil.
