The province of Pampanga welcomed a new gathering spot with the grand opening of Side Eye Cafe last November 16, 2024. Founded by 27-year-old entrepreneur and coffee enthusiast Jose Fernando “Jeio” C. Rivera, the stylish café promised more than just premium coffee—it offered a fresh take on community, conversation, and culture.

A Dream Brewed Locally
Jeio, a Business Management graduate from the University of the Cordilleras and a current Master’s student at De La Salle University, envisioned Side Eye Cafe as more than a coffee shop. Inspired by the power of non-verbal communication, particularly the expressive “side eye,” the café fostered dialogue and mutual respect.
“A simple glance can express so much,” Jeio shared. “At Side Eye Cafe, we challenged the norm, creating a comfortable space where people of all backgrounds could share, reflect, and connect over a cup of coffee.”
Grounded in Christian values and supported by his family—his father, a retired general, and his mother, a former hotel manager—Jeio aimed to set an example for the youth.
Celebrating Tolerance and Togetherness
The café’s opening coincided with The International Day for Tolerance, underscoring its mission to celebrate diversity and understanding. Adding a personal touch, the launch also marked Jeio’s and his mother’s birthdays, making the day a triple celebration.
Local Beans, Global Standards
Side Eye Cafe sourced premium Sagada Arabica beans from the Mountain Province, supporting local farmers and promoting sustainability. They also offered Brazil Santos beans, giving coffee lovers a rich, international experience. Roasted on-site in Pampanga, each cup highlighted the unique flavors of these high-quality beans.
“Our sourcing approach enhanced beverage quality while benefiting local farmers who are the backbone of our supply chain,” Jeio explained.
Signature Brews and Culinary Delights
The menu featured standout drinks like the Side Eye Breve, Spanish Latte, Dirty Matcha, and Pink Himalayan Sea Salt Latte. Alongside these flavorful brews, the café offered an enticing selection of pasta dishes, including Seafood Alavar and Squid Ink Pasta, and desserts like freshly-made crepes and matcha dream cakes.
More Than Just Coffee
Side Eye Cafe also showcased a curated merch shop with trendy apparel and stylish coffee tumblers, creating a hub for cultural exchange and community engagement.
Whether savoring a cup of locally-roasted coffee or engaging in lively banter, Side Eye Cafe invited guests to glance, sip, and connect—leaving a lasting mark on San Fernando’s coffee scene.
