Angeles City Mayor Jon Lazatin Charts a Traveler-Friendly Path Forward

The Oathtaking of Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II was held at the new Lapid Stadium in Pampang this 1st of July 2025, and as someone who loves to explore cities through their people, food, and culture, I listened closely to his inaugural speech.

What I heard gave me a renewed hope. Not just for the locals, but also for travelers like me who keep on promoting Angeles for its energy, history, and world-class food.

Mayor Jon Lazatin’s message was simple but strong. He repeated something that seems to run in the family: Ditak a salita, dakal a gawa.” It means, “less talk, more action.” That alone could lay the groundwork for what his new term could bring. Here are a few reasons why travelers should get excited.

The Culinary Scene Could Get Even Better

Leaders are claiming that Angeles is the culinary heartland of Pampanga, and the mayor made sure to highlight that again. He mentioned the existing Culinarium, a space focused on preserving and celebrating Kapampangan cuisine and heritage. As someone who has tasted sisig and other local delights in both small eateries and fancy restaurants in the city, I can say this is something to be excited about.

If this project continue to flourish as planned, it could impact Angeles to become a better destination for food lovers and culinary tourists.

Investing in Young Talent and Education

The mayor talked a lot about improving schools and offering more college courses that match today’s job market. That might sound like it’s only for locals, but it actually matters to visitors too. Soon as they graduate and face readily the real world, they are equipped with timely skills.

When a city invests in education, it shapes a future where local people become better guides, chefs, artists, and professionals. That means better experiences for travelers, and a stronger sense of culture in every corner of the city.

He also promised to support local sports and talents, which could mean more events and shows that visitors can enjoy in the future.

Plans to Fix Traffic and Support Businesses

Let’s be honest. Traffic in Angeles City is a challenge and becomes horrendous by the day, especially around busy areas like Balibago and Fil-Am Friendship Highway. Mayor Lazatin admitted this. But he also said that traffic is a sign of growth. More homes and businesses mean more movement.

The good news is he promised to work on improving traffic flow, which will help both residents and tourists. Easier movement means easier access to food spots, shops, hotels, and attractions.

Even better, he said, “Tayo sa gobyerno, ‘wag pahirapan ang mga negosyante.” That means the local government should not make things harder for business owners. If this happens, we can expect new cafes, restaurants, and travel-friendly services to open in the city.

Safer and Healthier City for Everyone

Mayor Lazatin said he supports public hospital capacity expansion, hire more health workers, and help the police force keep the city safe from crime and drugs. These are important, not just for residents, but also for people who visit.

Discipline and Shared Responsibility

One line stood out to me the most. He said, I am not the solution to all problems. Everyone needs discipline.” That felt honest and real.

He also said he will review laws like the environmental fee, and even if some people might get angry, he’s willing to do what’s right. It shows that he’s not afraid to make hard choices if they’re for the good of the city. And Yes, he kept his word and signed his first resolution in office, E.O. 2025-001, suspending environmental fee collection.

A City to Watch

If Mayor Lazatin follows through on what he said, Angeles City has a lot of exciting things ahead. From better culinary tourism to stronger support for culture and small businesses, this is a city that’s getting ready to shine even brighter.

So if you’ve been here before, it might be time to visit again after a few months. And if you’ve never explored Angeles City, there may be no better time to start. The changes may take time, but the vision feels right.
