MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Airlines (PAL) is taking bold strides toward closing the gender gap in aviation with its Fly With Her initiative. In celebration of International Women’s Day, the airline pledges Php10 million to the PAL Foundation to support aspiring Filipina pilots, reinforcing its commitment to empowering women in the cockpit.
“As the nation’s flag carrier, we embrace our role in helping women achieve their dreams—not just of flying, but of leading in aviation,” said Alvin M. Miranda, PAL Vice President for Marketing.
Beyond financial support, PAL is set to release an inspiring short film based on the true story of a young girl determined to become a pilot.
“When young girls see women at the helm, they start believing they, too, can soar,” shared Lilybeth T. Ng, PAL Assistant Vice President for Pilot Affairs.
Breaking Barriers in Aviation
Women account for only 6% of pilots worldwide, making representation in the field a challenge. PAL has been a steadfast ally in changing this narrative. In 1989, Captain Aimee Carandang-Gloria became Southeast Asia’s first female commercial airline pilot, and by 1993, she made history again as the region’s first female airline captain.
From pioneering milestones to fostering the next generation of women aviators, PAL remains committed to shaping a more inclusive industry—championing clearer skies for all through its signature #CareThatComesFromTheHeart.
