Globe Telecom Strengthens Digital Safety and Connectivity Efforts in Pampanga

Pampanga – Telecommunications giant Globe is ramping up its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and network enhancements in Pampanga, focusing on digital safety and improved connectivity for its users.

Empowering Seniors Through the Senior DigiZen Project

Globe continues to roll out its Senior DigiZen project in Pampanga, a program aimed at equipping senior citizens with essential digital skills to protect them from online scams and fraud. The initiative includes teaching seniors how to navigate GCash safely, identify and avoid spam links, and make the most of digital platforms securely. Since its launch in 2023, the project has conducted five to six sessions across different cities, ensuring that seniors, one of the most vulnerable groups to cyber threats, are educated on digital safety.

In addition to safeguarding seniors, Globe is also working with the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and the Department of Education (DepEd) to protect young users from fraudulent activities, including online sexual exploitation (OSAEC). The company is launching an information campaign this month to raise awareness on deepfakes, AI-driven manipulation, and fake news.

Tackling Network Congestion and Illegal Repeaters

With Pampanga being one of the most densely populated provinces, Globe acknowledges network congestion issues caused by users relying on the same cell sites. Compounding this problem is the presence of illegal repeaters, which disrupt signals by monopolizing network traffic. Globe is actively coordinating with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to address this nationwide concern.

To enhance network reliability, Globe is currently implementing upgrades, updating equipment, and boosting capacity. While the company primarily operates on 5G technology, certain areas still utilize 4G due to infrastructure considerations. Globe also encourages users to report dead spots and connectivity issues, helping refine its network expansion strategy.

Strengthening Digital Safety Measures

In response to rising cybersecurity threats, Globe has taken significant steps to enhance digital safety. The company has ceased sending SMS messages containing links to prevent phishing attacks. Any SMS received claiming to be from Globe or GCash containing links is fraudulent and should be disregarded.

Globe is also collaborating with the NTC and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to combat malicious activities, including the use of IMSI catchers, devices used for illicit tracking and data interception. The company is intensifying its efforts to block harmful digital content, having already restricted six-digit pornographic activities as part of its commitment to online safety.

Commitment to Responsible and Sustainable Digital Use

Beyond connectivity, Globe’s CSR efforts focus on responsible and sustainable digital use. The company advocates for value-driven digital engagement, ensuring that technology not only enhances communication but also contributes to economic productivity and responsible digital citizenship.

As part of its commitment to digital safety, Globe is gearing up for Safer Internet Day last February 11, further reinforcing its advocacy for online security and responsible internet use across all age groups.

With ongoing infrastructure improvements and dedicated digital safety programs, Globe continues to position itself as a leader in providing secure, reliable, and sustainable connectivity for Pampanga and beyond.
