Early Chinese New Year Celebration at CDC: A Showcase of Culture and Unity
Clark Freeport Zone – The HSD Training Hall of Clark Development Corporation (CDC) came alive with vibrant colors and festive sounds during an early celebration of the Chinese New Year 2025. The event, held in partnership with the University of the Philippines Confucius Institute (UPCI), showcased a shared commitment to fostering cultural understanding and collaboration. Through its efforts to promote traditional Chinese culture and arts, UPCI played a pivotal role in organizing the activities and performances, further highlighting the enduring bond between Filipino and Chinese communities. The lively event opened with an electrifying Lion Dance and Drum Performance, setting the tone for a program filled with messages of unity, cultural appreciation, and hope for the Year of the Wooden Snake.
Dr. Lourdes Tanhueco-Nepomuceno, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of the Philippines Diliman, welcomed attendees with gratitude for a decade of collaboration in uplifting the lives of Filipinos. She highlighted the deeper friendship between the Chinese and Filipino people, wishing everyone a year of happiness.
Messages of Prosperity and Unity
Several dignitaries shared their messages for the upcoming Chinese New Year. Mr. Edgar Pamintuan, Chairman of the CDC Board, extended his greetings and optimism for the Year of the Wooden Snake, emphasizing blessings and good fortune.
Atty. Carlo L. Vistan II, Chancellor of UP Diliman, marked the significance of the occasion as a time for countless blessings and an opportunity to strengthen cultural ties.
Dr. Richard Daenos, Regional Director of the Department of Tourism-Central Luzon, reminded attendees of the universal values of family and unity. He emphasized the importance of understanding and appreciating diverse cultures, reaffirming a commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration for a more inclusive future.
Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting of Angeles City added a musical note to the celebration, captivating the audience with a Chinese song about well wishes, happiness, and prosperity.
Ms. Huang YaPing, Cultural Chancellor of the Chinese Embassy, shared insights into the historical significance of the Silk Road and the Spring Festival, underlining the deep cultural connections between China and the region.
Mr. Mariano Chua, President of the Angeles City Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, reflected on the Year of the Snake as a symbol of wisdom, agility, and courage. He commended the University of the Philippines Confucius Institute (UPCI) for its dedication to promoting traditional Chinese culture and arts.
Traditional Chinese Experiences
The celebration also featured engaging activity booths, including workshops on traditional Chinese calligraphy, mask painting, and paper cutting, along with tea-tasting stations and a photo booth showcasing traditional Chinese attire. Cultural displays highlighted the richness of Chinese heritage.
The event concluded with a stunning Chinese Cultural Dance Show performed by the City College of Angeles Performing Arts Group, leaving attendees inspired by the beauty and vibrancy of Chinese traditions.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Jose Miguel R. De La Rosa, Vice President for Admin & Finance at CDC, expressed gratitude to everyone who participated in making the event a success.
