Smoki Moto: Your Next Korean Culinary Obsession in Clark

The first official welcome dinner during the MICECON 2024 ensued at the Culinary Capital of Clark – Hann Resorts complex where Smoki Moto of Clark Marriott Hotel set the bar high with an exquisite dining experience.

Perfectly and sophisticatedly lined up!

Perched on the 17th level of Clark Marriott hotel tower, Smoki Moto features more than a premium Korean dining experience but also its unique awe-inspiring overhang view that sets the perfect backdrop for a memorable formal evening. The restaurant’s interiors reflect a seamless blend of gray, earth tones and white into a modern sophistication with East Asian elements. Sleek lines, Asian depicting ceiling patterns alternated by industrial steel accents, warm subdued lighting, and elegant furnishings create a refined atmosphere, while the expansive windows offer panoramic views of the city below, enhancing the overall dining ambiance.

Salmon Tatake was our starter, a dish that unprecedentedly set a high bar. The salmon, lightly seared to perfection, retained its natural, plump texture. Each slice offered a sublime balance of smoky undertones and the inherent sweetness and creaminess of fresh salmon, subtly enhanced by a whisper of olive oil and alpha sprouts. This dish was an elegant play on texture and flavor, setting the stage for the culinary delights to follow.

Moving on to the Yachae Bulgogi Jeongal, the beef bulgogi soup, one is greeted with a hearty, aromatic broth that speaks volumes about the depth of Korean cuisine. The beef, somehow tender to bite and succulent, while the vegetables add a refreshing and alternating crunch and texture. The broth itself featured with outstanding sweet with mellow savory, and just hint of umami flavors that provide both comfort and a bit taste complexity.

The main courses began with a pork dish – which I did not try, since I do not eat pork. The Osam Bulgogi, a dish of stir-fried pork and squid in a spicy sauce topped with cheese and the Suyuk Bossam, featured braised pork paired with radish kimchi.

The La Galbi—marinated US beef short ribs—were prepared and plated nicely. This one I tried but found it quite tough from the expected tender marinated description. However, the meaty and umami flavor were adequate that balanced the tough bite.

The Haemul Bokkeumbab, or seafood fried rice, provided a delightful accompaniment with the generous portions of shrimp, squid, and other seafood added levels satisfying texture and natural sweetness. This dish was a comforting and flavorful addition to our meal, plus heavy on the stomach. – made us really full.

The Wagyu Striploin epitomized indulgence. Grilled to perfection and served with the right amounts of its sauce, the wagyu was incredibly tender, with marbling that promised a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The savory and umami tones of the sauce never overpowered the striploin – it is a fantastic complement. Best to try one slice with and without and compare the flavors that play on your palate. Try it also with the side butter.

This is my personal best of all. Each bite was a lovely cacophony of rich, beefy flavors, highlighted by a buttery texture that left a lasting impression. This is my very first time to tasted an authentic wagyu beef. Without hesitating, I asked the leftover of my seatmate.

Layers of chocolatey splattered with awesomeness

Our culinary journey concluded with the Chocolate Royale dessert, a fitting end to an extraordinary meal. The longer wait was quite worth it. This decadent treat featured layers of rich, velvety chocolate, balanced by a touch of sweetness and a slight bitterness from dark chocolate. The smooth, lusciously creamy texture was punctuated by a crisp layer that added a delightful crunch, making each spoonful a luxurious sweet experience.

I hope I could try to dine at their alfresco area at sunset hours, see below photo from their official website:
