BIG 8 CORPORATE HOTEL: Recommended Business Hotel in Digos City

Standing aloft as a 12-story hotel tower looming above the skyline of Digos City, the 112-room hotel complex boasts its modern and inviting interiors and unparalleled genuine Filipino hospitality. Officially opened last October 2022, the team braved the effects of the outgoing pandemic and turned into one of the premium business hotels in all of Davao del Sur.

OUR EXPERIENCE

We are able to stay at the Big 8 Corporate Hotel in Digos City through the Domestic Tourism Invitational Program of the Tourism Promotions Board with the Davao Del Sur Tourism Office. It was our first abode on our 6-day excursion in the beautifully exciting province.

THE CHECK-IN PROCESS

Arriving as a big group, the hotel staff and designated tour operator were able to manage our ingress systematically. We got an instant refreshing treat thanks for the welcome cold towels. Our tired and sleepy faces perked up. It was almost less than half an hour when we got our keycards and soon we took to lift to the 8th floor. Sadly, we had a problem entering our rooms after many attempts and two trips back to the reception, only to find out that the electronic door knob batteries were exhausted. I am so happy that the Maintenance Supervisor allowed us to choose another room of the same category, and we got the nearest to the elevator shaft.

STANDARD ROOM FEATURES AND AMENITIES

The successful attempt led us now to finally enjoy and recuperate in our new room. The Standard Room features two single beds with side tables in between. Each bed has two puffy pillows, a brown throw pillow, and thick duvet sheets. There are enough power outlets available so no worrying about taking turns in charging electronics. There is an individual adjustable reading light as well. The window is a floor-to-ceiling glass wall with blackout drapes. There are two nooks – one for the dresser with a chair and mirror, and one for the coffee and tea facility.

The AC unit is remote-controlled and we have had it running at full power since the warm humid weather we had. The dresser / working desk features a large mirror, a drawer, separate ambient lighting, and a telephone. Right beside is an open-setup wardrobe hanger and a safety deposit box. The Large Flat Television is connected to a cable service but with limited international and local channels. The Wi-Fi connection is strong in our room.

The Private Toilet and Bath Room feature a sliding door, a bowl-type lavatory, a blow drier, separate glasses, toiletries, two sets of bath and face towels, and a large mirror. The toilet seat also has a foot rug, a lovely bidet, and a towel rack above. The shower segment is separated by a clear glass wall with a working hot and cold shower.

INDOOR SWIMMING POOL

The Swimming Pool is located at the Second Level. It features a pool bar, outdoor shower, kiddie, and adult pool. There are lounge seats available surrounding the pool area. At night, the pool itself is illuminated to add to the premium experience. There are dedicated staff at the pool area to look for your needs and requests. A separate pool towel service is available. I loved how the staff greeted us soon after we arrived at the pool deck reception area.

IN-HOUSE RESTAURANT REVIEW – BREAKFAST SERVICE

Loved my breakfast set, the two cups of garlic rice with chicken tocino, eggs, and bangus. A fruit platter is served later.

The team is scheduled to check out by 7:30 AM the following day, and I believe that this is coordinated with the hotel. The breakfast service is ala carte style. We arrived by roughly past 6:00 AM, and the F&B staff obtained our orders, however, arrived at almost 7:30 AM. The food service was quite disorganized. Latecomers got their orders ahead of us. We kindly gave gentle reminders to the wait team, and just to know that they had only a single chef on duty at that time, given the large group to check out. We felt their pressure as well and did their best to deliver our requests the best they could. Still, kudos on their grace and composure under pressure. However, we are behind our itinerary. Some enjoyed their breakfast in a rush. Their kitchen management and staff rostering need forecasting management and big room for improvement. For sure, our experience will be part of their learning curve.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE AND REVIEW

Overall, if not for the breakfast mishap, we enjoyed our overnight stay at Big 8 Corporate Hotel. Apart from the premium feel of the hotel, I had that good night’s sleep I direly needed. The AC Unit maintained functioning well. The hot shower was soothing for our tired bodies. The bidet water pressure is ample. The hotel hallways smelled fresh and clean, with no trace of moldy or dusty smell. There was a wake-up call service as well. It would remain as my accommodation of choice should I be back in Digos City for business. My heartfelt thanks to the hotel team that made our stay pleasant and relaxing. Apart from these nice experiences, the location is strategic. Within its Ground Floor complex, there is a fast food chain and pharmacy, and across the road is a shopping mall. Public transportation should not be an issue since there are plenty, like hordes of tricycles plying the highway route.
