SYMPHONY OF TRADITION & HERITAGE: Fashion, Culinary & Cultural Spectacular of Quezon Province

Quezon Province, one of the largest provinces in terms of land area which is situated on the eastern side of the Luzon Island in the Philippines, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions.

More than the historical significance of the province of Quezon, the Philippine Experience Program, a flagship program of the Department of Tourism, also celebrates and flaunts the present creativity of everything Filipino. The Culture Night being held at the Quezon Provincial Capitol would showcase the best fashion, food, music, and dance with everything done live. We were literally smothered with the Quezonian artistry and creativity when the live Rondalla serenaded the crowd, the dance troupe performed unprecedented acrobatic Tagayan dance, and after, a lovely and spirited execution of different genre of dance sport on stage.

A Peek into Quezon’s Rich Cultural Heritage

The Cultural Fashion Show at the Quezon Provincial Capitol is a much-anticipated event that unites fashion, culture, and heritage in one spectacular evening. Against the grand LED Wall backdrop of the provincial capitol building, this event showcases the traditional and contemporary attire of the province’s diverse communities. It’s a mesmerizing journey through Quezon’s history and culture through the lens of fashion.

Being in Quezon Province, it is customary to experience the Tagayan Culture. It is a symbolic representation of their warm hospitality with Lambanog, a coconut liquor, as a tool. The DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco herself and the entire participating Diplomatic Corps, Top DOT Officials and all guests enjoined the Tagayan Culture Custodian, Ms. Tina Decal, before having the toast.

The Cultural Fashion Show: A Rich Tapestry of Colors and Textures

Each year, the Cultural Fashion Show brings together local designers, artisans, and models to present a vibrant tapestry of Quezon’s cultural diversity. Traditional attire from various regions of the province, such as the Barong Tagalog, terno, malong, and more, takes center stage. These intricate garments, often passed down through generations, tell stories of the province’s indigenous communities and their enduring traditions

Soon, as the fashion show culminated, everyone’s jaw dropped with the glittery, detailed, and unique execution of every Fashion Piece. It was a delight to see indigenous materials incorporated into the total look of each dress and suit. Contemporary designs inspired by Quezon’s cultural motifs are also a prominent feature, blending the past and present to create a fashion spectacle that resonates with both heritage enthusiasts and trendsetters. The catwalk comes alive with an explosion of colors, textures, and intricate details, offering a visual feast for the audience. After the catwalk, all models poised around the dining hall and allowed the audience to marvel at the grandeur of each masterpiece. It was certainly a show with a blast.

Quezon Cultural Product and Heritage Showcase

In addition to the fashion show, the Quezon Cultural Product and Heritage Showcase is a vital component of the event. It offers an immersive experience for visitors to delve deeper into Quezon’s rich heritage and learn about the province’s unique products and traditions.

Artisans and craftspeople through kiosks and booths arranged near the entrance, proudly display their wares, from locally made sweet treats, woven products, and trinkets. Visitors, guests, and dignitaries can conveniently purchase these artisanal products as souvenirs and support the local communities that rely on these traditional crafts for their livelihood.

By showcasing the province’s cultural treasures and talents, the event raises awareness of the need to protect and celebrate Quezon’s heritage.

Preserving Culture also means Preserving Culinary Gems. Apart from the stunning cultural show, we are led to a gastronomic journey that defines the culinary landscape of Quezonian culture. At the buffet spread, the curated dishes are definitely part of the local traditional dishes. Beginning with the Chicken Binakol soup which is sweetened by coconut juice. Sweet appetizers are the famed bibingka, cassava cake, and panara which is almost an every Filipino constant, the Pako Salad always provides tangy flavors, the Pansit Lucban with its characteristic savory-garlicky flavors, steamed talakitok that could be a celebratory seafood centerpiece, the Quezon Meatloaf that comes with meaty and fruit flavors combined, the Braised Beef with a tender bite and real spiced thick sauce, and capping our dinner is the Tablea Ice Crea, served in an individual coconut husk. Seeing just the list of dishes makes my mouth water and my eyes glisten with excitement – moreover, my tummy goes rumbling.

It also attracts tourists and enthusiasts from around the Philippines and beyond, providing an economic boost to the region while offering visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Quezon’s culture.
