Being a travel content creator, we are deliberately exposed to the elements that wreak havoc to our skin health. Once we head out to our destinations, it is difficult to avoid sun exposure, and air pollution, which in the long run poses damage to our skin. I, myself, have incurred obvious damages like sunburn, uneven skin tone and occassional development of acne. We get exposed as well with different chemicals without our knowledge. Hence, it is recommended to have your skin assessed by an Aesthetician, like Dra. Bernadette S. Cantor of Nouvelle Clinic Angeles Branch, to have that early treatment and care. Late stage damage could really cost more, and Dra. Cantor really do recommend early assessment to begin with basic and economical procedures to save your precious complexion.

My Nouvelle Clinic Journey (CO2 Fractional Laser)

One of my previous colleagues has recommended to visit Nouvelle Clinic Angeles City Branch to have my acne scars assessed and treated. Arriving at their Clinic Building, I was welcomed by their cheerful reception staff who instantly connected me with my previous colleague who is their staff member now. After which, we begin with a quick discussion on what the sequence of treatments would be. She assisted me to one of their cozy and homey treatment rooms complete with a relaxing and plush dermatology bed countered for full body and back support. They also provide extra body towels in case you feel cold because of the air-conditioning There are equipment prepared like the face light, the minor Operating Room prep kit, and serums on display. 

We begin with the washing procedure where damp pads are used to cleanse the face. After which cleansing with a mild cleansing soap took place. Before extraction, they have the usual steaming, which I find beneficial, especially because it also helps loosen my airways. The extraction was done after. Since I do not have the much breakouts, I thought that I have fewer whiteheads and blackheads. But to my surprise, they are able to identify and extract many whiteheads, especially near the jawline and the nose area. This is the painful part (Pain scale 5 out of 10), but I do not mind. We need to clear the pores. 

After which, a High-Frequency Light Treatment is applied via a derma wand-style of probe to help tighten the pores. 

After the extraction, a clay mask is prepared and applied to my face for 20 minutes. The Clay Mask feels really cold and it was actually soothing after the extraction section. I think I had a power nap while waiting for the Clay Mask to set. The Clinic also has relaxing background music that adds to your premium care and experience. When the time is up, they gently removed the set mask and began applying thick topical anesthetic cream. After, a thin layer of plastic film is applied to increase the absorption rate of the topical anesthetic. Momentarily, I felt a bit of pricking and my lips felt thick – this is the anesthetic effect taking place. Momentarily, after removing the excess topical cream, they wheeled in the Co2 Fractional Laser Equipment inside the treatment room. Dra. Cantor then began the procedure with quick subcision with AnteAge for my atrophic scars because of my acne and Shingles scars.

The Laser Treatment preceded spot treatments. An eye cup is placed over it to protect the area eye from the effects of the laser. At first, the sensation feels like needle pricks in rapid succession. Because of the anesthesia, the pain was bearable (Pain Scale 4 out 10). After the spot treatment, Dra. Cantor began the longer full facial application of the laser. At this juncture, you have to maintain still for your dermatologist to efficiently perform the laser treatment. Expect the smell of burning hair during the procedure, however, they have a specialized vacuum to suction the smell during the procedure. During the treatment, Dra. Cantor is also providing more insights about the treatment as she goes along, making you understand more about the condition and the procedure. After completion, serums are applied to my face and Red Light Therapy for about 15 minutes is rendered to kickstart the collagen production. Right after the procedure, my face felt like it was sunburned, and there pricking sensations (Pain Scale 3 out 10), but this is temporary. My face also appeared red. After a quick rest and recovery, the pain subsided fully. The week-long recovery period ensued.

CO2 Fractional Laser AfterCare:

1. Use hypoallergenic cleansers for up to 3 days.
2. Apply a cold compress at least two times a day for 3 days to soothe the skin.
3. Avoid Sun Exposure for the first week. Apply sunscreen approved by your dermatologist and reapply every 3 hours if going outdoors is warranted.
4. Take Vitamin C Supplements to help during healing and collagen formation.  
5. The next treatment is recommended after 4-6 weeks to make sure the collagen production has completed its phases. 

CO2 Fractional Laser Before Care:

1. For 2-3 days, avoid strong cleansers and products on your face.
2. Avoid strong sun exposure, at least for a week before the treatment day.
3. Always have adequate hydration.
4. Undergo recommended pretreatment facials

When do you need to see a Dermatologist or Aesthetician? 

Under the Aesthetic Medicine Practice, it is best to consult and seek expert advice if you would undergo any facial treatment or any facial application for assessment. It is the best phase since avoidance of any damage and costly treatments could be prevented. It is best to see if you are contemplating having reconstructive surgeries like nose or breast jobs and seek their expert advice to help you navigate your decision. Additionally, for any nonsurgical procedures that you would undergo, it is best to seek expert care before undergoing such.  Regardless if it is basic whitening or anti-aging topical treatments, it is still best to have your skin assessed thoroughly rather than be sorry later. Remember, any dermatologic damage and severe side effects would entail lengthy and costly treatments – we do not want this to happen. Social Media’s stronghold to the connected public has increased the knowledge of various beauty products, but this actually increased the incidence of different hyperreactive, allergic, or damaging side effects, and this is because netizens instantly believed in different online influencers that are NOT experts in the medical field.
